Nurse attacker in court for sentence review

-

A woman is trying to turn her life around after she attacked nurses and spat at cops in A&E.

Beth Leitch, 22, lashed out after being taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital for being so sozzled that she wet herself.

She was earlier ordered to complete community service — but was rapped for shirking her punishment.

Leitch was back in the dock for a further sentence review at Paisley Sheriff Court.

Defence lawyer David Nicholson revealed she has completed just over a quarter of the 210 hours ordered.

He said:“She has completed just shy of 60 hours.”

Prosecutor Margaret McCallum previously told how the patient lost control.

She said:“She had been brought into the hospital by paramedics for being drunk.

“She had wet herself.

“Two nurses started to assess her and they were required to remove her trousers so that she could be examined by a doctor.

“They started to remove the accused’s jeans and, while doing that, she lashed out, slapping both witnesses on the arms as they were at either side of her.

“She slapped and punched both witnesses.

“One nurse was left with marks on the forearm.

“The accused was shouting‘f**k off,’‘get to f**k’, and‘leave me alone’.”

Leitch lost the plot after being taken in for treatment in June 2017.

She pled guilty to assaulting, obstructing and hindering A&E nurses and repeatedly striking and punching them on the body.

She also admitted behaving in a threatening and abusive manner by shouting, swearing and spitting in the direction of police.

Leitch narrowly avoided jail and was told to complete unpaid work.

But she was hauled back into court after refusing to engage with the punishment.

The sales assistant insists she is now ready to face her responsibilities.

Sheriff Colin Pettigrew ordered Leitch, of Neilston Road, Paisley, to return for a further progress report later this year.
