Help is at hand for exam results

-

Hundreds of teenagers across Renfrewshire will be waking up to an email or text this morning with their longawaited exam results.

Today’s the day they’ll find out the results of their National 5, Higher or Advanced Higher exams from earlier in the summer.

Many will be delighted with their results but for those who don’t get what they want or need, help is out there.

Skills Development Scotland has an exam results helping with advice on what to do next. It opened this morning at 8am and will close at 8pm this evening, with the same hours tomorrow.

From Thursday, August 8 till Wednesday, August 14, it will be open from 9am till 5pm.

The free helpline from Scotland’s careers service offers advice, information and support when you’re not sure what your options are.

Samaritans Scotland is also urging young people and parents to put wellbeing first on results day.

James Jopling, executive director of Samaritans Scotland, said: “Exam results day can be really stressful for young people, and for the parents and family members supporting them. So it’s important we all keep perspective and ensure we’re putting young people’s wellbeing first.

“Whether you get the results you’d hoped for or not, it’s OK to find this time tough.

“We’re here to listen, 24 hours a day. We won’t judge or tell you what to do and you can talk to us about whatever is on your mind.”

Phone the Samaritans on 116 123 for free, 24 hours a day. The number won’t show up on phone bills. Alternatively, email jo@ samaritans.org or go to www. samaritans.org to find details of your nearest branch where you can talk to a trained volunteers face to face.
