Help brothers turn plastic into fantastic

-

Two brothers who are working hard to reduce plastic waste are calling on Express readers for help.

Laimonas and Tautvydas Miliauskas founded EnviroMedia Group Ltd –a Paisley company that sells used DVDs and CDs online to prevent them from going to landfill.

At just 23 and 26, the talented duo have grown their venture from a small shipping container to a warehouse on Paisley’s Underwood Road.

The brothers, originally from Lithuania, were shocked to find the thousands of unusable DVDs and CDs they could not use were sent to pollute landfills for thousands of years. This inspired them to start a quest so that they could help make a real difference to the growing plastic waste epidemic.

Currently, only nine per cent of the world’s plastic waste is recycled and the brothers are now hoping to build their own machines to allow them to turn the spare plastic cases into useful items.

Laimonas said:“We were frightened by the amount of waste that was going to landfill. There is tonnes of it going there every day.

“We want to try and do something that will make a difference to the world.

“We want to use all this waste we have and turn it into things that people can enjoy and will be able to have around for a long time.”

In order to achieve their goal, they have launched their own Kickstarter campaign to help them build machinery that will allow them to recycle the plastic themselves.

To do this, they will need three machines - a shredder, an extrusion machine and an injection machine.

These machines which they plan to design and build, will safely break down, melt and reform the plastic - all operated by manpower.

Laimonas says this machinery will enable them to create custom home items such as flower pots, clocks, coffee tables and fruit bowls.
