Nine-tonne trucks stolen from ON-X sports hub

- DAVID CAMPBELL

Crooks nicked two giant nine- tonne dumper trucks from a Linwood sports centre.

Brazen thieves stole the two huge vehicles worth £30,000 each from a building site at the ON-X in the town’s Brediland Road.

Cops recovered the massive plant equipment more than 20 miles away in Hamilton on Friday around 12.30pm.

They believe the trucks may have been placed on the back of a lorry and driven off overnight between Thursday, August 8, and Friday, August 9.

The bizarre theft comes after a spate of plant thefts in the Renfrewshire region in recent months.

A balaclava-wearing thief stole a dumper truck from a building site in Bishopton last month and drove it to Erskine.

The culprit made off in a dark-coloured BMW and the truck was recovered.

Inspector Jim Cast, from Renfrew, Johnstone and the villages community policing team, has appealed for people to be vigilant.

He told the Paisley Daily Express: “These two large dumper trucks were taken from a building site in Linwood.

“We are investigating the possibility they were taken away on the rear of a lorry and would appeal to anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious at the overnight between Thursday and Friday last week.

“If you were driving in the area, I would also urge you to check dashcam footage to see if you captured anything that may be significant .”

He added: “We are d e t e rmined to stop these types of thefts from happening but we need the help of the public.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 101.
