Dylan’s double puts ‘Ton back on track

Derek Carson hailed his side’s vast improvement... after conceding things couldn’t have got any worse.

Still reeling from a midweek hammering at the hands of Cambuslang Rangers, the Farmer’s Boys recovered to seal a credible 2- 2 draw against titlechasing Kilsyth.

A double from Dylan Fletcher clinched a point following a meeting between the management team and playing staff in the run up to kick-off.

Carson told Express Sport: “It was much-improved from Wednesday – but to be fair it couldn’t have been any worse.

“I thought a draw was a fair scoreline but the result is nothing to be sniffed at as a lot of folk have tipped Kilsyth to go great guns this season.

“We all sat down before the game and discussed the last game against Cambuslang. A few home truths were spoken but I think we were all in agreement that it couldn’t happen again.

“We got the reaction we wanted. And considering we are only playing at 80 per cent in my opinion due to fitness differing between players then that is a positive.

“We are back on track though and that is the main thing. We will train twice this week and work on some things, so that gives us a chance to regroup.”

Kilsyth started the game on the front foot and put the Neilston backline under pressure early on.

Young goalkeeper Kyle Pirie had to be alert to prevent this visitors from going ahead with a number of decent saves.

Carson’s men punished Kilsyth on the stroke of halftime when a long clearance up the park from Pirie saw Fletcher bomb onto the ball and lob the keeper.

Scott Upton levelled for Kilsyth two minutes into the second half as they looked to kick on.

But just when it appeared as though Kilsyth were going to seize the upper hand, Fletcher lobbed the keeper again with a carbon copy of his first.

Kilsyth’s persistence paid off however through Chris Reid with a great header from a corner kick.
