Dog injured in vicious attack

Graeme relives horror attack as he pleads with fellow dog owners to act responsibly

A much-loved loved family dog suffered horrific leg wounds when an out-of-contol Staffie sunk its teeth into him.

Shaken owner Graeme Murray, 38, was taking 11-year-old Max for a walk to shops in Linwood when the mutt pounced without warning.

Poorly Max needed staples to close gaping gouges on his back leg following the shock attack.

Graeme told the Paisley Daily Express:“Max is a tough old dog, but had that been a chihuahua or a smaller dog, it would be have been dead.

“It could have even been a kid.

“If you know your dog is capable of that, you shouldn’t leave it unattended or it should be muzzled.”

A traumatized dog owner has told how his pooch was savagely attacked by an out-of-control Staffie.

Graeme Murray, 38, from Linwood, was taking 11- yearold Staffordshire bull terrier Max for a walk when the vicious dog pounced.

The mutt latched on to Max’s back leg, leaving painful gouge marks, before Graeme could wrestle him free.

He said: “I was walking along to the shop in Clippens Road with Max.

“I saw a Staffie cross type dog just lying down by the fence and I didn’t think anything of it.

“It wasn’t aggressive or growling. Its hackles weren’t up or anything.

“Then I just felt a pull on the lead as we passed. The dog tore into Max’s leg. It just happened so fast.

“A woman stopped at the lights and got out to help me with the dog. It was traumatising.

“Max was shaken for hours after.”

Max, who was a week away from being put down when Graeme adopted him three years ago, suffered a painful gash to his back leg in Sunday’s attack that eventually needed to be stapled.

Warehouse worker Graeme believes the outcome could have been much worse if a child had been the target.

He added: “Max is a tough old dog, but had that been a chihuahua or a smaller dog, it would be have been dead.

“It could have even been a kid. “If you know your dog is capable of that, you shouldn’t leave it unattended, or it should be muzzled.

“I’ve reported it to the police, so hopefully, they can trace the owner.

“I’m an animal lover, so I know that some dogs can be aggressive, but you need to manage that and make sure it can’t hurt other dogs or people.”

Graeme initially took Max to Vets4Pets in Linwood, but was told it would cost £500 to treat Max’s wounds. He then rushed the injured pooch to the PDSA hospital in Glasgow where vets stapled his gaping wounds and gave him painkillers.

He said: “He has to go back in ten days to see how it has healed and get the staples removed.”
