Chloe is set for Euro 2021 qualifiers after World Cup bid

Star called up again to Scots squad

Football star Chloe Arthur has been named in the Scotland squad for the team’s qualifying opener for Euro 2021.

The Erskine fullback, currently playing for Birmingham City, is among the 23- strong team confirmed by boss Shelley Kerr.

Arthur, 24,and her teammates will face Cyprus at Easter Road on August 30.

This will be the players’ first outing with the national squad since exiting France 2019 at the group stage on their World Cup debut.

Their World Cup bid went down in history as they became the first Scotland side since the 1998 men’s outfit to reach a finals.

This will be Scotland’s third major tournament, following in the footsteps of the World Cup and the 2017 European Championsh­ips in the Netherland­s.

Finland, Portugal and Albania are Scotland’s other qualifying opponents.

Kerr said her team is hoping to build on the momentum of their efforts in the World Cup - which saw thousands of fans cheer the squad on.

She said: “The World Cup was an amazing experience for the players and one we’ve learned a huge amount from.

“Seeing the level of support we had from the general public across Scotland was incredibly inspiring and we now need to make sure this is just the start.”

The call- up will be welcome news for the pitch star, who previously spoke of her delight about have the opportunit­y to play in the World Cup.

Arthur said: “What an absolute honour. Goosebumps, tears and every emotion under the sun.

“I’m so excited to be part of this team and represent our country.”

The Euros qualifier is Arthur’s next chance to add to her 20 Scotland caps for the national team.

Rachel McLauchlan, Lucy Graham, Sam Kerr, Abbi Grant, Abi Harrison and Zoe Ness have also been called up after missing out on the summer’s World Cup.
