Fork-brandishing yob told to behave

-

A tanked-up lout who pulled cutlery from his socks and brandished it at police has been told to toe the line.

William Irvine, 21, was arrested after he whipped out a number of forks and challenged officers during a drink-fuelled disturbance in Paisley.

He was cleared of trying to stab a cop with a fork – but rapped for breaching offensive weapons rules.

He admitted this offence and breaching the peace during a hearing at Paisley Sheriff Court.

The court had sought background reports in preparation for handing him his punishment, however, Irvine was absent when the case last called.

Irvine appeared in the dock for the rampage which happened in the town’s Moss Street, in June last year, and it was revealed the matter is being continued again.

Defence agent Charlie McCusker said: “Your ladyship is aware of the case and had sought a report. He was not present on that date.

“A warrant was sought, and he appears today in relation to that.

“The report is full in its terms. However, there is an outstanding matter and we are expecting something to happen in the near future, although no dates have been assigned.

“He has been subject to a curfew and stays at his mother’s address.

“He is very dependant on his mother, with whom he gets on well.

“However, it is quite clear he has an alcohol problem.

“He has been told this is an issue for him.

“He recognises that and I would ask these matters are deferred until after the outstanding matter at the High Court is dealt with.”

Sheriff Lindsey Kooner agreed with the defence solicitor and said she was adjourning sentencing on Irvine until after the High Court case was complete.

She said: “I will keep these two matters and defer sentence to await the outcome of proceedings in the High Court. It is extremely important that you are of good behaviour in the meantime and continue to support your mother.”

Irvine, of Park Road, Paisley, has been ordered to return to the dock to learn his fate on December 5.
