Cops launch manhunt after armed raider tries to rob Post Office

An armed thug burst into a Paisley Post Office and demanded cash from terrified s t a f f ye s t e rday morning.

Frightened workers at the Glasgow Road shop were forced to hit their panic alarm when the tooled-up brute launched a robbery bid.

He threatened the 60- year- old shop owner with a weapon as he stood behind a glass counter.

Shocked customers watched on in horror as the lout demanded cash and struck the window pane with his weapon before making off empty-handed.

It’s believed he ran in the direction of Mill Street after the incident, which happened around 11.30am.

No- one was injured during the robbery.

The suspect is described as being a white male aged in his 30s or 40s, wearing a baseball cap, a navy top and dark-coloured bottoms.

Witnesses told of four police cars pulling up to the shop and officers racing inside.

Detectives were also on scene quizzing witnesses and reviewing CCTV from the area.

And specialist forensic cops were also drafted to help scour the area for clues.

The shop closed it doors to customers as enquiries continued.

A Police Scotland spokesman says that although no one was hurt the experience would have been frightenin­g for everyone in the shop at the time.

He said: “Police were alerted to an attempted robbery in progress in at a Post Office in Paisley’s Glasgow Road on Monday morning.

“A 60- year- old male shop worker was allegedly threatened by a male who a demanded money before making off from the scene.

“The suspect is described as being a white male in his 30s or 40s, wearing a baseball cap, dark coloured trousers and a navy jumper.”

He added: “The victim was left shaken but thankfully unhurt during the incident.

“We are current l y following a positive line of enquiry but we would urge anyone with informatio­n to come forward and speak to us.”
