IN SAFE HANDS
Paisley Pirates are in safe hands after announcing the return of goaltending pair Graeme Meechan and Callum Donaghy.
The Paisley side have also confirmed that Dean Hamilton and Dan Abercrombie will return as Ian Turley and Adam Walker bid to solidify the ranks.
Meechan, who will be entering his seventh season as a Pirate, backstopped the club to the playoff title last season in impressive form.
The club stalwart ended the campaign with a superb shutout in the championship win against Murrayfield Racers.
Meechan said: “I am delighted to be returning to the Pirates for what will be my seventh season.
“We finished on a high and will be looking to carry that forward and push for more silverware this season. I can’t wait to get back at it.”
The news has been welcomed by coach Walker, who is thrilled to have his main man on board for the upcoming campaign.
He said: “Graeme had a bit of a slow start last season but became stronger as the season wore on.
“He put in a fantastic effort in the playoffs and that was a big reason for our success. We are looking forward to seeing him progress again this year.”
Meanwhile, Donaghy is set for his third season at the Pirates after joining from the North Ayrshire youth system.
He was limited to less games last season due to work commitments but produced the best save and percentage and goals against average among the netminders.
This season, he hopes to gain more ice time and push for a more regular spot in the side.
He said: “I am extremely excited to be back with the Pirates for my third season.
“I have been keeping fit throughout the summer and I am looking forward to pushing for that number one spot.”
Coach Walker added: “We are delighted that Callum has returned for what will his third season as a Pirate.
“His numbers were impressive last year. It was a shame he was restricted with work. However, this year we are hoping to see more of him as he pushes the other goalies.”
