Community champs are top of the shops

-

Community champions were guests of honour at a Paisley supermarket.

Morrisons, at Anchor Mills, has a bright new look after refurbishment and to celebrate staff invited along guests from Paisley’s Mirin Centre.

The store has been revamped inside and out, and all the work was completed while remaining open.

“We even have a new party shop and the car park has been resurfaced,”said Sharon Dennison, community champion at Morrisons Anchor Mill.

Members of the Mirin Centre were thrilled to be invited along to see the new store.

The centre, based at the Lagoon Centre in Paisley, helps adults with a moderate to severe learning disability, including autism, who need a structured day service.

It runs activities that help people maintain and develop skills and aims to design the service around your individual needs.

Morrisons is one of the centre’s biggest supporters and often organises fundraising events to help out.

Also big on Morrisons list is Paisley’s Accord Hospice, as is SAMH (Scottish Association for Mental Health) which often benefits from its fundraising efforts

“We also support the Foxbar Resource Cafe,”Sharon said.

“Customers donate food and toiletries to them.”

Every Morrisons store has a community champion.

In addition to their day job, they work to raise money and awareness for local and national charities.

The supermarket also has an unsold food programme that sees it donate items it is left with in stores to more than 400 organisations.
