Get some help and stay warm this winter

- DAVID CAMPBELL

Energy experts offered Buddies free advice on reducing their bills and staying warm this winter.

A special information sharing event organised by RAMH and hosted by Home Energy Scotland highlighted ways to tackle fuel poverty.

Third sector organisations, and Renfrewshire Council staff attended the advices session at Paisley’s Charleston Centre.

Also in attendance was Provost Lorraine Cameron, who picked up some free money saving tips of her own.

Stephen McLellan, chief executive of RAMH, says the event was the perfect way to bring organisations and individuals together to share information on reducing energy bills at home.

He said: “The event went really well. We had lots of third sector organisations come in and people from Renfrewshire Council which was really helpful as they can then share the information with their service users

“RAMH got involved through our link worker who are based at GP surgeries across Renfrewshire. They support people with social problems - some of those social problems can stem from financial worries and growing bills.

“Home Energy Scotland work with people to reduce their bills through advice on things like switching suppliers, applying for energy grants and keeping warm in the colder months.

“So it made sense for us to get involved. We can be the link between people and organisations like Home Energy Scotland.”

He aded: “We have teamed up with Home Energy Scotland as we recognise the impact of cold, damp homes and worry about bills on people’s health and wellbeing.

“Home Energy Scotland is a trusted source of energy and money- saving advice and information.

“The team provides free, impartial advice and is there to help people, whatever their personal circumstances, make informed decisions and afford to keep warm at home.”

Robbie Dalrymple, of Home Energy Scotland, said: “We want to see if we can help you - particularly if you are struggling to keep up with your bills or finding your home hard to heat. Chat to one of our friendly advisors, free of charge, to see if you could benefit from the range of advice, information and support we offer.

“Help with free heating systems and insulation through the Scottish Government’s Warmer Homes Scotland scheme could be the solution and it is available now so you can get support before the cold weather arrives again.

“We offer free and impartial advice, so even if you don’t qualify for Warmer Homes Scotland we can explore other support that may be available, such as discounts from your energy supplier.”
