Classes are a big success

- KENNETH SPEIRS

The Friends of Barshaw Park have again been making the most of the summer in colourful style.

Art classes have been taking pace in the open air in the east end park’s walled peace garden and elsewhere.

Most recently, a pastel class was held and the tutor was Lynn Howarth, who is a well-known and award-winning artist. Local artist Robert Kelsey dropped by too.

Both Lynn and Robert will have several works on display at the upcoming prestigious Paisley Art Institute Exhibition in the Piazza, starting on September 7.

Lynn said: “What luck to have such lovely sunny weather for my Plein Air Pastel Demo on Saturday at Barshaw Park in Paisley.

“Twelve students came along to paint outside in these stunning gardens which are run by a group of dedicated volunteers called Friends of Barshaw.

“Art in The Park is a wonderful initiative which I hope will become a regular feature.

“I really enjoyed this fast and furious demo as we all had to work superfast to capture as much as we could in the two hours we had.”

Friends of Barshaw Park is a group of local residents who love the park and want to see it restored, looked after and improved as it moves into its one hundred and second year.

More than 100 years ago, Paisley Burgh Council bought the 55 acres of Barshaw from the Arthur and the park was officially opened on June 15, 1912.
