MP Gavin goes on patrol with police
Gavin Newlands MP spent a morning with police officers out on patrol in Renfrewshire to see firsthand the vital work that they do every day as part of Give a Day to Policing.
It follows Gavin’s meeting with the new Divisional Commander for Renfrewshire and Inv e rc l y d e, C h i e f Superintendent Alan Murray, to discuss a variety of local priorities such as community policing, antisocial behaviour, vandalism and domestic abuse policing.
While out on patrol with PC Stuart Hamilton and PC Hannah Elliott, Gavin attended several incidents in KB division.
These included the Well Street fire and a vehicle fire at Phoenix Retail Park.
The officers also took Gavin to other areas of his Paisley and Renfrewshire North constituency covered by KB division, including, Ferguslie, Linwood and Gallowhill.
Gavin, MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, said:“Getting out and about in Renfrewshire with frontline police officers is a great way to understand the great work they do in keeping our communities safe and also to get a handle on the issues the police face in doing their job.
“I used the opportunity to ask about the recent change to domestic abuse legislation in Scotland and the impact this has had thus far, and will have, moving forward.
“Ironically, the start was slightly delayed as PCs Hamilton and Elliott had to deal with a domestic incident – an all too common occurrence for officers across the UK.
“I would like to sincerely thank officers Hamilton and Elliott for taking the time to discuss local issues with me and letting me join them on patrol.”
