Gala day will be a fountain of fun

- JACK THOMSON LOCAL DEMOCRACY REPORTER

The eagerly- anticipated return of Fountain Gardens Gala Day is just around the corner.

It will be the first time in more than a decade that such an event has been held in Paisley North and organisers are working hard to add some of the final touches to the planning.

Five groups have come together to organise the community event, which will create a carnival atmosphere from 12pm to 5pm on Saturday, September 7.

Paisley North Community Council has joined forces with the Disability Resource Centre, Star Project, Friends of the Fountain and Mossvale Community Church to get the gala off the ground.

The costs will be jointly covered by heritage funding and Renfrewshire Council.

Mike Dillon, chairman of the community council, promised a buzz will be created in the area.

He said: “We’ve had a great response to the promotion of our gala day. So many groups want to take part and we have a Paisley’s Got Talent competition for the kids. The winner of that gets a trophy.

“It’s going to be absolutely brilliant. Everybody is really looking forward to the day. The community will be absolutely buzzing.”

Provost Lorraine Cameron is expected to present trophies to those who are successful in the competitions.

There will also be live music from King of Birds, John Rush, Lisa Kowalski, Paisley Rockus Choir and many others.

Mike added: “It’s Doors Open Day. We did it on that day purposefully so we hope to get loads of people coming to the park.

“We have some fine musicians playing in the park. Kings of Birds and John Rush have both got new albums coming out.

“Lisa Kowalski is one of the best young talents in Paisley and obviously the Rockus Choir are really well known.”

If any charities or community groups want to take part in the gala, they are encouraged to email Mike via mikedillon@btinternet.com
