PIRATE PRIDE FOR RETURNING FIVE

- ANDY MCNAIR

Paisley Pirates squad continues to go from strength to strength with five more players signing up this week.

Felix Huber, Struan Forbes, Euan McLaughlin, Connor Speirs and Ross Andreuccin have all penned new deals with the Scottish National League (SNL) ice hockey side.

The club says it’s delighted to have the quintet on board for the new season which starts in October.

Coach Adam Walker was full of praise for “dedicated” Austrian Huber, who was part of his squad that finished runners-up to Murrayfield Racers last season.

“Felix is one of the hardest working guys on our team,” Walker told the Pirates website.

“He is a team-first guy and is willing to do anything in order to help his teammates. We were happy with his progress last season and look forward to working with him again this season.

“Connor was another player that we could rely on every night last season. He can play in many situations including special teams and that is important for him and for us. We hope he can continue to improve his game as he is still not at the peak stage of his career”.

“Ross came back to us last year and we worked really hard with him to help improve his game. In return, he gave us some big shifts at crucial times, which helped towards our success.

“He has good attributes and with him being in the gym all summer, myself and Ian are looking forward to seeing him build on last season.”

Forbes, who collected a credible 13 points in 16 games last term, said: “I am delighted to be returning to the Pirates for my second season. I feel I progressed well last season under Ian (Turley) and Adam and I couldn’t think of a better organisation and group of players to play with again.

“I feel this is the best club in the SNL to help me progress further.”

Turley added: “Struan came to the club last year and although we could see his talent, we understood he needed development. Throughout the year his progress was immense and finished the year on a high.

“We believe he has all the tools to be a top player not only for the Pirates but also in this league for many years to come. We are delighted to have him back.”

Last but not least is Euan McLaughlin who has signed up for his fourth campaign with the Pirates and is looking to put an injury hit-18/19 season behind him.

He said: “I’m buzzing to get back on the ice this season. Hopefully we can continue to build on last season and win more trophies!”
