WE’RE BOXING CLEVER

It’s seconds out for Burgh

- ANDY MCNAIR

With no game to keep them occupied last Saturday one local Junior side decided to box clever.

The gloves were off for Johnstone Burgh manager Jamie McKim who didn’t want his players getting sluggish.

So he set them up with new opponents in the gym – each other, as the whole squad tried out boxing.

McKim told the Paisley Daily Express: “We had no game the last two Saturdays.

“We had a midweek game last week but this week we felt the boys needed to put in a bit of a shift. So we worked hard on Saturday morning and the lads enjoyed it.

“We were just mixing things up.”

The Burgh are finally back in action tomorrow with in-form Yoker Athletic the visitors to Keanie Park.

The hosts sit third in West Region League One having won all four of their games so far this season, and the aim this weekend is to make it five wins from five.

“That’s the target,” added McKim. “But it’s not going to be an easy game. We watched them this week and they play some good stuff.”

Several Junior bosses breathed a sigh of relief this week at the end of midweek matches and the chance to get tired bodies

I want us to be playing as many games as we can Jamie McKim

back on the training field. But tHat’s not how Johnstone Burgh see it.

McKim added: “I want us to be playing as many games as we can so I disagree with the other managers on that. Some of the boys really like the midweek games, especially if we haven’t been playing at the weekend, and we have a big squad so perhaps it just suits us better.”

The Keanie Park outfit are also on the hunt for a new goalkeeper coach after James McLennan left the club.

“He’s been in the last 13- 14 months or so and he has been a great coach for us. But his circumstances have changed and it’s not going to work for him or us,” continued McKim.

“We have spoken to one or two people but if anyone out there is interested they should get in touch with us.”
