Danny aims to strike it lucky at Livi

Mullen’s on a mission

Danny Mullen would love the chance to sink his former club Livingston tomorrow.

The 24-year-old forward has seen his playing time reduced in recent weeks, but insists he is ready to step up if given the nod by manager Jim Goodwin tomorrow.

The former Lion started the opening day defeat at Hibs, and featured for 15 minutes off the bench in the Buddies’ impressive 1- 0 win over Aberdeen at the Simple Digital Arena.

Mullen didn’t get on the pitch in Sunday’s narrow defeat at home to Rangers, but is keen to point out that he did score the last time he visited the Toni Macaroni Arena

He said: “I started the first game then got taken out the team, so I want to get that striking jersey back.

“There is competition for places and I know it’s going to be tough, but when I get the opportunity I need to take it — just like I did at the end of last season.

He added, jokingly: “I’ll maybe need to drop in the fact I scored the last time I was there.”

The striker is looking forward to returning to Livi tomorrow and he is expecting a tough encounter.

“The fans do give me it a bit tight when I go there,” he said. “But I was there for five and a half years and know a lot of people so it will be nice to see a few faces.

“However, I’m there with St Mirren now and obviously I want a positive result.

“Livi have continued their form from the end of last season.

“They seem to be flying, despite losing a few players in the summer, but we think we can go there and win the game.

“I imagine it will be a good match for the neutral, with both teams on form.

“I scored the last time I was there and, hopefully, I can do that again.”

St Mirren may have shown promise against Aberdeen and Rangers in recent weeks, but Mullen is looking firmly ahead to the Livingston clash and beyond.

“We need to be a wee bit better on the ball,” he added. “The manager said that to the boys, but that will come in time.

“That’s not the games we are going to be judged on this season. The weeks coming up will really show us where we are going to be in the league this season.

“The spirits are still high after a tough run of games.”
