Lorna helps Scots to victory over Namibia

- ANDY MCNAIR

Paisley’s Lorna Jack warmed up for Scotland’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifying campaign with a fine 58.

Her fine batting performance on Thursday afternoon helped the national side to a convincing win over Namibia at Dundee’s Forthill ground.

It was the final warm-up game ahead of the Scots qualification bid, which gets underway today.

Jack will once again line up in that clash with the USA at the same venue.

The Wildcats then take on Papa New Guinea at Arbroath on Sunday before rounding off their big tournament bid against Bangladesh on Tuesday.

Right- hander Jack’s 58 was actually higher than her best ever score for Scotland in a competitive match of 54.

The wicket keeper open the batting with Sarah Bryce and struck the runs – which included eight fours – off just 47 runs at an impressive strike rate of 123.40.

The former Ferguslie starlet eventually fell to an LBW decision to the bowling of Kayleen Green in the 15th over of the match but by then the damage to Namibia’s chances had already been done.

Jack’s opening partner Bryce also hit a 50 as the pair put on an opening partnership of 87 before the latter was out, stumped.

The Scots reached 170/3 from their 20 overs before Namibia battled hard but couldn’t get the runs on the board. They finished with figures of 87/7 in their allotted spell.

Kathryn Price with two for 17 and Abtaha Maqsood with two wickets for just five runs were the best of the bowlers for the hosts.
