Murder victim Kevin to finally be laid to rest

- CARLA TALBOT

The funeral of murdered Paisley dad Kevin Bishop will take place today — more than a year after he was butchered and dismembered by his twisted pal.

Loved ones of the 32-year-old will finally lay him to rest following his horrific death in August last year.

The service will take place on Wednesday at St Fergus’ RC Church at 9.30am, before heading to Hawkhead Cemetery.

It is understood the family of Mr Bishop have only recently had his remains returned to them following his brutal slaying 13 months ago.

A source told the Express: “That’s them just got his remains back.

“It’s been a long time and that is them just getting the chance to have a funeral for him.

“It’s a horrible situation.”

Bishop, 46, was hacked to death by David Collins at a flat in Paisley’s Schaw Road.

He cut his throat with a foot- long machete — then dismembered him and ditched his limbs in a wheelie bin.

He kept the body in his flat overnight before chopping off the dead man’s head.

His arms and legs were removed the following night.

He wrapped his torso in plastic and stuffed it in a suitcase before shoving it in a bin and dousing it in aftershave in a bid to mask the smell.

Collins — who already served five years for fatally stabbing his own father with a sword — is currently serving a life sentence for the murder.

He was ordered to serve a minimum of 26 years and was told he may never be released from prison.

Heroin addict Collins admitted killing Kevin, but insisted it was an accident.

He claimed Kevin burst into his topfloor flat clutching a blade and tried to rob him.

The murderer says he grabbed a brownhandled machete from under a pillow and hacked his throat in self-defence.

Handing him the sentence at Glasgow High Court, Judge Lady Rae said: “It would appear from the evidence, for some reason, if there is one, you effectively beheaded him and went to elaborate lengths to destroy evidence of what appears to be a motiveless killing.

“You clearly took your time to do so. “You disposed of all body parts in various rubbish bins and only the torso was recovered.

“Not only have the family experienced the distress of losing their loved one, they have been unable to properly lay the body to rest.
