No-deal Brexit will mean food and medicine shortages, warns Gavin

-

A politician has claimed that a no-deal Brexit could result in complete chaos, with food and medicine shortages.

Gavin Newlands, MP for Paisley & Renfrewshire North, says he wants to play his part in trying to stop the chaos before it begins by vowing to work alongside other parties to block the Prime Minister’s plans.

He said: “Boris Johnson is trying to drive us over a cliff edge.

“A no-deal Brexit would be catastrophic for every single one of us – except the old Etonians camped in Downing Street.

“I’ve been working alongside MPs of all parties and of none to help build a coalition against this disaster and legally prevent a no deal Brexit.

“I still disagree with many of their policies and politics – but at this point we have to put the interests of Scotland ahead of anything else.

“The UK Government’s own assessment shows we could end up with food and medicine shortages, social unrest, and unprecedented job losses if we crash out of the EU with no deal.

“My constituents voted overwhelmingly to Remain in the EU, along with the 62 per cent in Scotland who see our future working with our friends and allies in Europe, not tagging along with Trump and his extremist ideals.”

The Prime Minister was yesterday facing a showdown in Parliament as MPs aimed to take control of the agenda to stop a no-deal Brexit.

Ex-chancellor Philip Hammond said he thought there was enough support for a bill that sought to delay the UK’s exit date, to pass.

But No 10 warned Boris Johnson would push for an election on October 15 if the government lost.
