Cops hunt A&E attacker after she skips court

- RON MOORE

A yob who sparked mayhem with A& E staff nurses in Paisley is being hunted by cops after failing to show up at court.

Meghan Cherrie, 21, had been admitted to the Royal Alexandra Hospital amid concerns for her own welfare when she attacked medics who were trying to treat her.

Out- of- control Cherrie, of Waverley Road in the town’s Foxbar area, shouted abuse and uttered threats of violence against two nurses, leaving both of them frightened for their safety.

She also attempted to assault one of the nurses by attempting to punch her and hit her repeatedly with a drip stand during the rampage which happened on November 13 last year.

Cherrie had also carried out the attack while she was out on bail.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard she previously pleaded guilty to the charges and was expected to appear at court for sentencing during yesterday’s hearing before Sheriff James Spy.

Defence agent Paul Lynch said: “Ms Cherrie was due to appear for sentencing. She had attended personally and pleaded guilty to both charges.

“Your Lordship had deferred sentencing her for a background report which is available.

“It is a favourable report given the circumstances of her behaviour in the incident.

“However, I am at a loss as to why she is not here this morning.”

Court papers reveal Cherrie accepted responsibility for charges of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner likely to cause fear or alarm in that she behaved aggressively, shouted, swore and uttered threats at two staff nurses Nadine Walker and Laura Feeley, placing them in a state of alarm.

She also admitted assaulting Ms Walker by attempting to punch her on the body repeatedly and attempting to strike her repeatedly on the body with a drip stand.

The offences also took place while Cherrie had been granted bail from Paisley Sheriff Court.

Sheriff Spy said he was prepared to grant a warrant for her arrest so she could be brought to court to face the music.

Previously Cherrie had threatened to gouge out a bus driver’s eyes and feed them to his wife during a drug- fuelled rampage on a bus.

The yob was jailed for spitting in the eyes of the McGill’s driver during the incident which happened in front of other passengers.

And the disturbance took place after Cherrie had been released from the Royal Alexandra Hospital in July last year, following treatment for a suspected drugs overdose.
