Firebug torches chemist’s van

A reckless firebug torched a Paisley chemist’s van in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Firefighte­rs rushed to Skye Crescent in Glenburn around 1.30am to reports a white M&D Green chemist’s motor was on fire.

Detectives believe the blaze was set deliberate­ly and have launched an investigat­ion to identify the the lout behind the mindless arson attack.

The front end of the 64 plate van was extensivel­y damaged with the windshield smashed in and engine destroyed.

Police taped the motor off yesterday before it was uplifted.

A spokeswoma­n for the force said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service alerted us to a vehicle fire in Paisley’s Sky Crescent shortly before 1.30am on Tuesday.

“The van was extensivel­y damaged as a result of the fire.

“We are treating the incident as wilful fireraisin­g and are now appealing for the public’s help in tracing whoever was responsibl­e.

“If you witnessed the incident or saw anyone acting suspicious­ly in the area then we would like to hear from you.

“If you were driving in the area or have CCTV we would urge you to check footage to see if anything signficant may have been captured.”

A passerby, who didn’t want to be named, added: “There was some serious damage to the van.

“The front end looked completely burnt out.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said a crew quickly tackled the fire and made the area safe.

She said: “We were alerted at 1.27am on Tuesday to reports of a vehicle fire in Paisley.

“Operations Control mobilised one fire engine to the town’s Skye Crescent, where firefighte­rs extinguish­ed a fire which had taken hold of a van.

“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area had been made safe.

“There were no casualties.”
