Would you want this at your front door?

Councillor hits out at thoughtless fly-tippers

- JACK THOMSON LOCAL DEMOCRACY REPORTER

Selfish fly- tippers have been blasted for dumping white goods, mattresses and dirty nappies on the doorstep of Paisley residents.

Mossvale Square, off Springbank Road in Shortroods, has been blighted by dumping issues for some time - much to the frustration of Councillor Karen Kennedy.

Councillor Kennedy, who represents Paisley Northwest, told the dumpers to put themselves in the shoes of those who are having to deal with the mess.

She said: “There’s young families living here.

“Would the perpetrators like this at their front door?

“There’s got to be rats because there’s food and dirty nappies. If somebody dumps one thing then other folk come along and add to the mess.

“I would find that embarrassing if it out was outside my home.

“I’m so upset for the residents having to put up with it, time and time again. It must be getting them down.

“It’s going to put people off living there. “That boarded-up home has been empty since I became a councillor in 2017 and people are crying out for housing.

“I’ve been in some of the houses here and they are immaculate.

“People take so much pride in their homes and they have got to put up with this.”

Councillor Kennedy has been in touch with Renfrewshire Council on various occasions about the problems in the area.

A site visit was conducted in February of this year, as officers looked to address the issues.

However, she said the fly-tipping has persisted since then.

She said: “It’s been constant since February, when we had the site visit.

“There’s signs up and they said they have leafleted the houses but I don’t see any of this.

“If I was in their position, this wouldn’t be happening.

“I don’t know what the solution is but somebody needs to come up with something because this is not working. “It’s terrible.

“Why should somebody have to put up with that at their front door?

“You can smell it.

“I was told by a constituent there was human faeces at the other side and stuff dumped in the close as well. “If it’s not the fly-tipping, it’s bins. “I’m getting bombarded with complaints. This has been going on since I was elected.”

Renfrewshire Council has been contacted for comment.
