Margaret with Michelle, the group’s consultant and the other nominees Gillian McQuade, 33, Irene Cahill, 61, Carol-Ann Deans, 41 and Sara Goold, 31 A gran- of- five has been named a Slimming World Woman of the Year after losing a fantastic four stones in just four months.

Margaret Gilmour walked through the doors of the Lochwinnoch Slimming World group just over four months ago.

She had been finding herself getting more out of breath on walks and going up stairs and, after hearing a neighbour had joined the group, she decided to bite the bullet and go along.

Margaret, 68, said: “I’ve been up and down with my weight before but have never joined a club.

“It was great – and the Scottish side of me thought if I’m paying £5 a week then I’m not going to put weight on!

“I eat a lot more veg now and have cut out all the rubbish like biscuits and chocolate.

“The ethos of Slimming World is that you’re never hungry and it’s true. Things like pasta and pulses that I would have maybe cut down on before when I calorie counted, I didn’t have to.”

Retired library assistant Margaret, who has four children and five grandchildren, enjoys walking around the village.

As well as slimming down from a size 22 to a size 14 on top and 12 on the bottom, losing weight has had a positive impact on Margaret’s health.

She said: “Last year my cholesterol level was at seven, now it’s two and I was on tablets for high blood pressure but now they’re at a minimum too.”

Margaret, with the support of her husband Eric, lost a total of four stones, five and a half pounds to reach her target – which happened the same night she was voted Woman of the Year by her fellow members.

She said: “It was lovely to reach my target and be chosen but the best bit was it was voted for by the other members.

“Getting Woman of the Year wasn’t the main thing, it was the fact everyone had voted for me which was so nice.

“Everyone is so friendly.

“Even if the weight loss wasn’t included, the girls are so nice and supportive and are all there for one another.”

Michelle Milligan started the

Lochwinnoch group in January.

She said: “Margaret is wonderful.

“She got to her target weight the same night she was awarded

Woman of the Year, which was very emotional.

“I’m so proud of her.

“She was very quiet when she first started coming along. She found it hard to come through the door at first, as so many people do.

“She’s so happy now. It’s just magic to see and is so inspiring.

“You read these stories in a magazine about people who have achieved so much so to have someone in group like that is fantastic.”
