Man taken to hospital after he is slashed in high street

A man suffered facial injuries after he was slashed as he walked down Johnstone High Street in broad daylight.

Detectives believe the 41-year-old man was the victim of a targeted machete attack.

He was approached by two blade yobs around 9.10am on Wednesday and was set upon with the weapon.

Police say the man sustained a four-inch gash to his face and a cut to the side of his head.

He was rushed to the Royal Alexandra Hospital, in Paisley, where he received four stitches to his facial injury and had his head wound glued.

Cops swooped on the street shortly after the incident and sealed off the area as an investigat­ion got underway.

Specialist forensics officers scoured the area for clues in the aftermath of the violent rammy.

Detectives are carrying out door-to-door enquiries and reviewing CCTV in a bid to trace those responsibl­e.

A Police Scotland spokesman said:“We were called to reports of a disturbanc­e in Johnstone High Street around 9.10am on Wednesday.

“A 41-year-old man was found with facial injuries and was conveyed by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

“We believe the man was the intended target of the attack and there is no wider risk to the public.”

He added:“We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward to spoken if they have not already done so.

“I’d also urge people in the area with private space CCTV to check if they captured anything which may be useful to our enquiries.

“We are following a positive line of enquiry.”

A 35-year-old has been arrested in connection with an alleged serious assault and is due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court.
