Elderslie Community Council has issued a plea for residents to stand for election, writes Jack Thomson, Local Democracy Reporter.

A statement from the group on social media urged people to consider volunteering and representing their village.

It states: “We hereby give notice that an election will take place for the community council between August 12 and September 13.

“All current members will have received notification of this today alongside their nomination papers should they wish to seek re-election.

“The results of the election process will be announced shortly after the end date of the current community council which is September 30, with all newly elected members being invited to the AGM due to take place on October 2.

“The nomination process is fairly simple.

“You are required to find two people who live in the area to propose and second you.

“The community council has a capacity of 30, at present only nine of these positions are occupied and we need 10 to be re-established.”

Those who are interested have been asked to message the community council’s Facebook page to receive a nominaion paper.

Alternatively people can request one from Anne McNaughton at Renfrewshire Council by calling the call centre number 0300 300 0300.

The statement adds: “This is a very exciting time for Elderslie and the community council has been a real driving force for the changes we have all seen over recent years.

“Feel free to join us to build on our achievements thus far.”
