Police swoop after landlord finds £140k cannabis farm

- DAVID CAMPBELL

A stunned Johnstone landlord discovered around 300 hash plants in his house when he went to collect the rent.

The massive cannabis farm filled three rooms of his semi-detached house in the town’s Thornside Road.

Drug squad cops were drafted in on Wednesday morning following the shock find.

It’s understood the plants have an estimated street value of more than £140,000 and now a major probe is underway.

Specialist forensics cops were still at the red sandstone property yesterday scouring it for clues.

Inspector Jim Cast, from Johnstone Renfrew and the villages, community policing team says work to crackdown on drug supply across the region continues.

He told the Paisley Daily Express: “We received information regarding a large cannabis cultivation within an address in Thornside Road, Johnstone.

“Acting on a drug warrant officers carried out a search of the property and uncovered a significant number of cannabis plants within.

“We are carrying out enquiries in relation to the seizure to identify who may be responsible for it.”

He added: “If you have any information in relation to drug dealing in your community then we would like to hear from you. We will act on any information provided.

“We are determined to rid Renfrewshire of the scourge of the illegal drugs trade.”

Earlier this week we reported how David Kerr, James Robertson, Brian Scally and Ian Matthews were jailed for a total of 18 years for their part in a massive cannabis farm in Paisley.

The sophisticated set- up in Glasgow Road spanned three floors and 13 rooms and had around 700 plants with a street value of around £430,000.

Cops snared the gang in January 2018 when they nipped out for a Pizza.

They were jailed at the High Court in G;lasgow earlier this week.

Anyone with information should call police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
