Youngsters can sign up to sing for Gaelic choir
Yo u n g singers in Renfrewshire are being invited to find their voice in the Fèis Phàislig Gaelic Choir.
The singing group, which meets at Castlehead High in Paisley, is looking to recruit talented vocalists aged between eight and 18.
Organisers say no previous experience of Gaelic is required as all the sessions are delivered in English.
The choir meets weekly on Monday evenings at the school with sessions running from 5.30pm to 7pm – and it’s completely free of charge.
Catherine Tinney, a finalist in the BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year competition leads the choir.
She said: “I can’t wait to welcome everybody along as we get the choir started.
“The choir is a really fun way to learn some Gaelic, sing some songs as part of a group and perform to some great audiences throughout the year.”
With support from Renfrewshire Council and Gaelic arts association Fèisean nan Gàidheal, the choir helps young people develop their performance skills and showcase their talents through regular performance opportunities throughout the year.
Upcoming events include a public concert at the Royal National Mòd when it comes to Glasgow this October, as well as taking part in the Paisley Christmas Lights Switch-On on November 16.
Grant McFarlane, Fèis Phàislig coordinator, said: “Our Fèis Phaislig Gaelic Choir is a fantastic opportunity for young people who enjoy singing to come together and experience something totally different.
“Most of our participants have never spoken Gaelic before so it’s always amazing to hear them stand on stage, singing together in a language that they otherwise wouldn’t get the chance to learn.”
The choir returns on Monday, with applications being accepted ahead of the first session and throughout the first term.
Fèis Phàislig is funded by Renfrewshire Council, the Robertson Trust and Fèisean nan Gàidheal.
