They don’t come any tougher than this

Clark is looking forward to Cumbernauld showdown

New Western Park plays host to one of the best ties of the weekend.

Title hopefuls Cumbernauld United will be the visitors to Renfrew as the hosts look to keep their promotion hopes on track.

‘Frew climbed to fourth in the table with a 2-0 win at Petershill at the weekend but are still four points behind their opponents.

“It’s a big game even this early in the season,” admitted Renfrew co-gaffer Colin Clark.

“They are a very good side who will be hoping to go straight up. They have a bigger budget than us but hopefully we can continue to show we are still in it.

“It’s early days as I said but the result will definitely have some sort of psychological effect one way or the other.”

Clark says his squad still haven’t fully recovered from the gruelling start to the season.

He added: “We have a few niggling injuries – six probably out – which is tough in a squad of 20.

“But it is what it is and hopefully that eases up now the midweek games are over.”

He was, however, delighted his side ended their bad run of form against Petershill.

“We’ve played so well against them in recent games and got nothing. It’s been a bit of a hoodoo.

“On Saturday if I’m honest we didn’t play very well but got the win.

“The wind made for a scrappy game but we probably managed it better, got the goals and deserved the win in the end.

“A lot of the teams were idle so it’s good to get the points on the board and keep ourselves in the hunt.

“They had a new manager to impress but our boys showed a bit of resilience under pressure.”
