Group says cheers for lottery cash boost

-

A community group has received a major cash boost from the lottery.

Renfrew group Our Place, Our Families supports people in the area to achieve better health and well-being.

It also runs Eat Better, Feel Better classes and has a footcare programme dubbed Best Foot Forward.

The organisation received £120,000 over three years to help it run a cafe and foot clinic at the town’s Arkleston Community Centre.

A spokesman said:“Our Place, Our Families has been running since 2012 with a grant from the Big Lottery who saw a need for projects like ourselves in the Renfrew area.

“We have progressed over the years with various needs for the community and were approached by the NHS to develop a foot care service run by our staff and volunteers whom they trained. Through our volunteers and questionnaires from the public we found a need to enhance the quality of living and companionship so, a community cafe is run at the same time to reduce social isolation and to make it a better community to live in.

“We are so pleased that we have secured this funding.”

Tory MSP Maurice Golden submitted a motion at the Scottish Parliament congratulating Our Place, Our Families on the award.

He said:“I am absolutely delighted that Our Place, Our Families have received this major funding boost, enabling them to run a café within the community.

“The volunteers put in tireless work for the good of their community and it is welcome to see the success of the pilot project being built upon.

“I am sure this news will go down well in the community who have already been enjoying the café and it is excellent to see Our Place, Our Families continue to go from strength to strength.”
