Don’t go it alone when it comes to self help
Paisley’s mental health charity RAMH has made a DVD in a bid to help people with self management.
The positive film attempts to let people know how both to help themselves and get help from others.
One contributor to the film says: “Self management is something that people think they should have to do on their own.
“But you don’t have to.
“There are things out there to help you to cope better, there is an organisation out there to help people to get through difficult times.
“You don’t have to go it alone, they’re there for a reason to help you so you don’t have to think, ‘Oh, I’ve got to do it all myself’.
“You don’t have to do it yourself. “There’s people out there to help you.
“So please don’t be scared to ask for help.”
RAMH promotes recovery from mental ill health, and aims to empower people to build independent, fulfilled lives.
It tries to do this by providing immediate support in crisis situations, by supporting people in their own homes with individualised care and practical support, and by providing counselling and social, therapeutic, creative and educational groups.
It also promotes self management and aims to empower individuals to achieve their potential.
RAMH supports carers, family and friends through education and information, and by raising awareness to break down the barriers, inequalities and stigma around mental health.
The charity says it believes that people have the potential to recover from mental ill health.
