WE ARE ALL SO TYRED OF THIS

 Fly-tippers strike again, with taxpayers footing cleanup bill  Councillor wants CCTV installed at dumping hotspot

Irresponsible fly-tippers have been slammed after dumping tyres on a country road in Paisley.

Four were left at the side of Leitchland Road, Foxbar, just a few weeks after Renfrewshire Council had cleared around 20 tyres from the spot.

Councillor Stephen Burns, who represents Paisley Southwest, and his ward colleague Provost Lorraine Cameron have been left outraged by the mess.

Councillor Burns said: “These are massive industrial tyres. The council came and cleared more than 20 smaller tyres about three weeks ago, but they have started to appear again.

“It’s a mess and a real frustration because it’s unsightly. It costs the council a fortune to get rid of these. We are fed up of it in our area.”

Councillor Burns is hoping to speak to officers at the local authority about installing temporary CCTV at the problem spot, which is just along from the former Foxbar Household Waste and Recycling Centre.

He said: “I’m going to ask the council about putting in temporary CCTV because this is not acceptable behaviour.

“We , as a council administration, are doing a lot across Renfrewshire with our Team Up to Clean Up Campaign and the £2.5million investment in our environment.

“We are making significant progress in changing attitudes and encouraging people to take real pride in their area.

“Our thanks go out to those volunteers who are making such an important difference to the cleanliness of the area, but their hard work shouldn’t be undermined by illegal dumpers.

“Fly- tipping is selfish and irresponsible.”

Foxbar isn’t the only area in Paisley that has had problems with tyres being dumped.

The site of the now demolished Craigielea Primary, in Ferguslie Park’s Blackstoun Road, is a hotspot for dumping tyres.

At the beginning of the year, a mountain of them were found discarded there and, just months later, in April, tyres were found left on farmland known as the Blackies.

Fly-tippers face a fixed penalty notice of £ 200 or, if taken to court, a fine of up to £40,000 or imprisonment.

A Renfrewshire Council spokesman said: “Fly-tipping is illegal, unsightly and damages the environment.

“It’s disappointing to see that fly-tipping has occurred at Leitchland Road again.

“The Renfrewshire wardens will routinely check this area when patrolling and we will also review the location to assess if the area is suitable for a mobile CCTV camera to try and identify the offender.

“If you see fly-tipping here, or anywhere in Renfrewshire, please report this to us and we will take the appropriate action.”

Report fly- tipping by calling 0300 300 0300.
