Councillor calls for action against speeding drivers

Concerns have been raised about dangerous driving at a roundabout in Ferguslie.

There have been reports of speeding and inconsiderate driving at the John Neilson Avenue/Station Road roundabout on the A761, prompting two ward councillors to contact the police.

Paisley Northwest’s Councillor Mags MacLaren said: “During one of our regular canvass sessions a number of local residents highlighted the problems at this roundabout and raised their concerns that a serious accident could occur if nothing is done about the poor driving.”

Councillor Mags MacLaren and Councillor Kenny MacLaren have both been in touch with Police Scotland and Renfrewshire Council’s roads department regarding the issues.

The problems include cars speeding along the main road, driving too close to the car in front and just missing other cars turning into John Neilson Avenue or Station Road.

Councillor Kenny MacLaren, who also represents Paisley Northwest, has urged members of the public who see dangerous driving at the roundabout to report it to the police on 101.

He said: “I’ve been in touch with the police inspector in charge of the local community police officers and she has told them to include this area in their routine speed checks.

“Hopefully this will help to deter speeders but we are also chasing up the police and the council’s roads team for more information on any accidents in this area and will see what further action can be taken.”

Councillor Kenny MacLaren hopes the issue can be resolved before an accident happens.

He added: “It is important that anyone involved in any incident or anyone who witnesses dangerous driving at this roundabout reports this to the police.

“If it’s not an emergency simply call 101. “This helps them build up a picture of how bad the situation is and can help both the police and council determine what action they can take to try to resolve the issue.”
