A businessman who lists Hollywood stars among his clientele is hoping for sparkling success at a prestigious awards ceremony.

Adil Khan opened Harrods Drycleaners, in Bridge of Weir, four years ago and since then has been crowned Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce’s Young Businessperson of the Year.

He’s now been nominated for Dry Cleaner of the Year at the industry’s renowned Laundry and Drycleaning Awards (LADA) for the second time.

The 29-year-old said: “I felt very surprised to be nominated because I know there are other big companies out there. I’m very proud of my nomination.

“I work very hard. I do all the work myself — I don’t employ anyone. We’re open seven days. Every garment that leaves my store is spotless.

“We are very specialised. I do designer clothes and couture. I post before and after photos on Facebook.

“I recently received a £1,400 suit that had candle wax spilled on it. We managed to get it off and I posted before and after photos of it on Facebook.

“I don’t advertise and most of my business comes from word-of-mouth or recommendations.”

The LADAs take place at Mercedez-Benz World, in Surrey, in November. The blacktie event aims to celebrate the best of the laundry and dry cleaning industry.

As well as cleaning designer items for the people of Renfrewshire, Adil is also getting a reputation eputation as the go- to dry cleaner for blockbuster films being shot in Glasgow.

“I was on set in Glasgow for ‘83 last month, which is a big-budget Bollywood film.

“I met Ranveer Singh, one of the biggest stars in Bollywood. Ranveer is one of my favourite actors. I was overwhelmed to meet him and his whole team.

“I also did the dry cleaning for stars of the Avengers when it was shot in Glasgow last year.”

Adil cleaned the personal items of the Hollywood and Bollywood stars and it’s a side of the business he’s keen to explore.

He added: “I’ve been talking to Scottish Screen about the films coming to Glasgow — there are a lot.

“I don’t want to be just another dry cleaners, I want to make it a bit fun and get involved with the showbiz side of things.”
