Paint yobs target vehicle
Reckless yobs daubed a car in paint before trying to set it alight in the early hours of the morning.
Detectives have launched an investigation after the grey BMW was targeted in Ryfield Avenue, Johnstone.
Police believe the incident happened between 1am and 2am yesterday after a loud bang was heard.
Louts covered the motor in white paint then tried to set it on fire.
The flames never took hold, but scorch marks were left on the car.
Forensic officers were drafted in to scour the area for clues and police also carried out door to door enquiries.
A similar incident was reported in the same street on June 26, however it is understood the victims are not linked.
Officers probing the latest incident say members of the public could hold the key to identifying the culprits.
Detective Inspector Bob Bowie, from Paisley CID, is overseeing the investigation.
He said: “A car was covered in paint and thereafter it appears an attempt was made to set it alight.
“The fire never took hold or the consequences could have been very serious.
“A bang was heard between 1am and 2am and we believe the incident may have occurred during this time period.
He added: “I would ask anyone who may have saw anything suspicious in the area around that time to get in touch. Perhaps there was a vehicle you didn’t recognise in the street?
“If you were driving in the area at the time, I would urge you to check dashcam footage to see if you captured anything that may be useful to our investigation.
“I’d also ask anyone with CCTV in the area to review footage.
“If y o u have any information, please get in touch with police.”
