It’s wet, wet wet as burst main floods Erskine roads

-

A major clean up operation was launched in Erskine after a burst water main left the roads flooded.

Residents were left stunned at the fountain of water which sprayed water more than 10 metres in the air and across the road near to Barrholm Roundabout on Tuesday afternoon.

Video footage shows it cascading down the hill and covering the road as passing cars attempt to drive through it.

It is understood the burst main was discovered around 1pm by Scottish Water while improvement work was being carried out by the water company in the area.

Renfrewshire Council and Scottish Water teamed up to limit the obstruction caused by the burst main.

One resident told the Paisley Daily Express that the water caused problems on the road near their home.

He said:“The burst main caused problems between the Barrholm Roundabout and the M898 roundabout. “The road was completely flooded.”

It is understood the road was cleared of flood water later in the day with only a minimal disruption to drivers in the area.

A Scottish Water spokesperson said: “During some improvement work which is being carried out on the local water network, a burst water main caused some localised flooding in Erskine on Tuesday afternoon.

“The burst was isolated as quickly as possible and a clean-up operation was undertaken.

“We apologise to road users in the area for any inconvenience that was caused as a result.”

A spokeswoman from Renfrewshire Council added:“Council officers worked with Scottish Water to provide traffic management in the area and to assist with clearing water from the roads.”
