Cops save man from river jump
Hero cops clutched to a vulnerable man for half-anhour as he threatened to jump from a bridge in the heart of Paisley.
Emergency crews raced to Gauze Street to reports a man was standing on the wrong side of the bridge over the River Cart.
Police arrived at the scene at around 3.15pm on Thursday and took hold of the 31-year-old.
It’s understood they gripped the man for around 30 minutes before they were able to talk him back over.
One onlooker took to social media to describe the scene.
She said: “The police were holding his arms and leg for sometime, but they managed to get him the other side. So sad to see this.”
A major operation swung in to action with firefighters and ambulance crews racing to the scene.

The man was eventually brought to safety and taken to hospital by ambulance to be assessed by medics.
Chief Inspector Dougie Falconer, area commander for Paisley, praised his officers and other 999 workers involved in the rescue.
He told the Paisley Daily Express:“The officers were able to help bring the situation to a safe conclusion and the man is now receiving the appropriate treatment and support he needs.
“I’d like to highlight the professionalism of the officers involved and their colleagues in the other emergency services.”
Bus services were diverted during the incident.
First Glasgow tweeted:“Due to Gauze Street currently being closed, this service is being diverted via Mill Street, Gordon St and Causeyside Street.”
