Yobs nabbed by cops as they tried to break into vehicles

- RON MOORE

Two yobs wearing shorts were caught red- handed as they targeted cars.

Jack Carson, 21, and Dean Harrison, 28, were arrested by cops after each tried to break into separate vehicles parked up outside owners’ houses.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard Carson smashed the window of a VW Golf and stole a bag from inside during the opportunistic break-in.

Co- accused Dean Harrison was found nearby as he tried to hotwire a Honda Civic.

Procurator Fiscal depute Keri Marshall said: “The witness parked his vehicle at Loanhead Avenue at around 1pm.

“At 22.50pm the witness heard chapping at his window, then chapping at the front door.

“When answering the door, he was met by a male, who was slim and wearing shorts. He was accompanied with a taller male, who was also wearing shorts.

“Both were standing on the pavement at the bottom of the driveway. He couldn’t understand what they were wanting and closed the door.

“Another witness at Loanhead Avenue saw two males enter the driveway. The witness saw Harrison stand at the rear of the car. Carson was seen to smash the window of the vehicle and get into the car.

“The witness contacted police and described the accused.”

Cops who responded spotted the damaged silver VW Golf and began searching the area for the vandal.

Officers found Harrison inside the Honda Civic at nearby Glebe Street where he was tampering with the wiring in a bid to start the car.

Carson was also soon arrested by police.

Yesterday, Carson, of Rowantree Road, Johnstone, pleaded guilty to a charge of forcing open a vehicle and stealing a bag during the incident on May 26 at Loanhead Avenue, Renfrew.

He also admitted a breach of his curfew.

Dean Harrison, of Storrie Street, Paisley pleaded guilty to attempting to steal a car at Glebe Street, Renfrew, on the same date.

Sheriff Colin Pettigrew told Carson: “You have previous convictions, but in this you appear to have branched out into another type of criminality.”

He told Harrison: “You record does you no credit whatsoever, but you also do not have an analogous offence in this matter.”

He called for background reports in preparation for sentencing both.

They will discover their fate on October 17.
