Police probe after cigarettes worth £10k are stolen from shop
A brazen crook nicked fags worth £ 10,000 in a latenight shop raid in Renfrew.
The yob stayed in the Spar branch in Paisley Road for an hour loading up on cigarettes before fleeing the scene.
Police believe the suspect managed to get in to the shop through the roof before ransacking the premises.
Officers probing the incident say they are carrying out forensic enquiries and reviewing CCTV images in a bid to identify the culprit.
The shop was targeted around 1am on Thursday, September 19, and police hope members of the public an help them with their investigation.
S e r g e a n t Bar r y McNaught, of Renfrew, Johnstone, and the villages community policing team, appealed for witnesses to come forward and urged anyone offered cheap cigarettes to get in touch with officers.
He told the Paisley Daily Express: “Police are investigating the theft of a large quantity of cigarettes from the Spar shop in Paisley Road, Renfrew around 1am on Thursday, September 19.
“Although it was late at night, there may have been members of the public in the area.
“If you saw or heard anything suspiciously then we would like to hear from you.
“We would urge any drivers passing at around that time to check dash cam footage to see if it captured anything of significance for our investigation.”
He added: “I would also encourage anyone offered cheap cigarettes for sale in the area to say no and to report it to police immediately.”
Meanwhile, officers are also investigating a spate of wheelie bin thefts in Erskine.
A force spokesman said: “We have received numerous reports of wheelie bins being stolen in and around Erskine. Community officers are making enquiries at present.
“If you can, then please mark you bins with your house number.”
