Award for St Peter’s

-

Grassroots sporting heroes at St Peter’s Football and Netball Club have picked up a top community award.

Members of the Paisley club travelled to Hampden Park for the 2019 national Scottish FA Grassroots Foo t b a l l Awa rds, in partnership with McDonald’s and the Sunday Mail.

And they were delighted to be honoured for their incredible work in the community.

The club was named Best Community Football For All Project winner after previously being recognised at a regional level thanks to their work with providing support for Syrian children from refugee families.

The Grassroots Football Awards, which are now in their 17th year, recognise and celebrate volunteers and clubs across Scotland who dedicate their time to local grassroots football.

The event was attended by Scotland manager Steve Clarke, Scotland Women’s midfielder Caroline Weir, Kilmarnock and Scotland right back Stephen O’Donnell and former Sc o t t i s h international player Suzanne Winters.

Through football, the club has made a huge difference to children’s lives by integrating them into the community.

They have waived membership fees, hosted offpitch workshops and visited the boys’ homes to make sure they get to play the sport they love.

Renfrew and Paisley McDonald’s franchisee Peter O’Keefe, is an avid supporter of grassroots football in the area.

He added: “It is great to see someone from Paisley win a national award.

“St Peter’s Football and Netball Club represents everything that is good with grassroots football.

“They are a shining light in the local community and hopefully they will continue to have a positive impact for many years to come.”

The McDonald’s and Scottish FA Grassroots Football Awards are part of the fast food firm’s ongoing Community Partnership with the Scottish FA.
