Delight at playpark upgrade
Brand new equipment has officially been unveiled at Houston Road Park, in Bridge of Weir.
Councillor Natalie Don and Bridge of Weir Tenants and Residents Association celebrated the improvements on Saturday morning.
It was one of five neighbourhood parks chosen by Renfrewshire Council for a share of a £250,000 investment in a previous year’s budget.
Following consultation with local community groups about how this money should be spent, it was a clear priority for Houston Road Park to be more accessible for all children.
New equipment with this aim has now been installed in the park.
SNP Councillor Don, who represents Bridge of Weir, said: “I am thrilled that these items have now been installed in the park. I have pushed for this upgrade since I was a member of the Bridge of Weir Community Council and along with the tenants and residents association we have worked vigorously to make sure this investment was a top priority for the village.
“I am very proud that we now have a park that is inclusive and accessible for all children.
“As a lifelong resident of Bridge of Weir, I played in this park when I was a young girl so I am so happy to see investment into it which will allow more children to make happy memories here.
“In the coming weeks we will also see upgrades to the paths which was also agreed as part of this investment, with these scheduled to start any day now.”
Some of the play items include percussion instruments, games panels, a swing that can be used by both parent and child, as well as an accessible see-saw and merry-go-round.
Chris Gilzean, chairman of Bridge of Weir Tenants and Residents Association, also praised the introduction of the equipment.
He said: “We are delighted with the new play equipment.
“It’s exactly what the park needed to allow kids with mobility restrictions to play with their family and friends.”
