Stephen signs up for the war on litter
An councillor has rolled up his sleeves and gotten stuck into the fight against litter in Paisley.
Stephen Burns, who re p re s e nt s Pa i s l e y Southwest, was out and about helping residents and volunteers as they cleaned up Durrockstock Park at the weekend.
Councillor Burns, who took to the streets of Foxbar before heading to the park blighted by litter problems, spoke of his joy at the attitude of local people as they pulled together.
He said: “I was delighted by the response of the community in the latest bid to team up to clean up at the weekend.
“Even the council road sweeper joined the litter battle in Foxbar.
“My advice, as always, is take your rubbish home and don’t leave it on other people’s doorsteps.”
Councillor Burns has been on an environmental crusade and earlier this month condemned flytipping in Foxbar.
Four tyres had been left at the side of Leitchland Road just a few weeks after Renfrewshire Council had cleared around 20 from the spot.
He said: “We, as a council administration, are doing a lot across Renfrewshire with our Team Up to Clean Up campaign and the £2.5million investment in our environment.
“We a re ma k i n g significant progress in changing attitudes and encouraging people to take real pride in their area.
“Our thanks go out to those volunteers who are making such an important difference to the cleanliness of the area, but their hard work shouldn’t be undermined by illegal dumpers.
“Fly-tipping is selfish and irresponsible.”
My advice, as always, is to take your rubbish home Stephen Burns
