Gaffer is pleased to take a point

CUMBERNAULD...............1

NEILSTON..........................1

Neilston co-manager Chris Cameron was delighted to get a point on the road against one of the best sides in the league, and insists they could have had all three.

The visitors took the lead from the penalty spot just before half-time after Dylan Fletcher held his nerve to open the scoring.

And even though the hosts levelled early in the second half, also from the spot, Neilston stood firm and almost pinched the win at the death.

Cameron said: “The game was how we expected. They had lot a possession but we had the better chances, especially in the first half.

“It was very even before Fletcher scored from the spot.

“Unfortunately within five minutes of the second half we returned the favour. That was disappointing because I told them not to do anything silly and keep it tight after the break.

“Up until the last five minutes it was still really tight before we gave then another penalty with just five minutes to go. Thankfully our keeper Kyle Pirie dug us out of a hole with a great save.

“Fletcher then had a great chance to nick it at the end when he was put clean through but their keeper made an excellent save.”

Cameron admits that if he had been offered a point before the game kicked off, he’d have probably taken it against one of the strongest teams in the Championship.

He added: “Cumbernauld are probably the best footballing side in the league. They’ll be there or thereabouts at the top of the league by the end of the season.

“I probably would have taken a point before the start but we gave a really good account of ourselves.

“That’s a point that a lot of other teams won’t get away to them so we’re looking at it positively.”
