Lout told cops he was going to have them shot in the head

A tanked-up yob made chilling death threats against cops called out to a disturbance in Paisley.

James Brennan, 34, claimed he would have officers shot because he is ‘Irish’ and even vowed he would have them executed paramilitary style.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard Brennan sparked mayhem following his arrest at Weighhouse Close in the town centre.

Procurator Fiscal depute Susan Barr said: “At around 3.55am on February 9, police witnesses had occasion to convey the accused to Greenock Police Office.

“During the course of the journey, the accused was initially cooperative, but there was a change in his demeanour.

“He asked for his handcuffs to be removed and was advised this was not possible.

“At this point, he shouted, ‘I am going to kick off like f***.’”

Cops pulled over and requested a cell van to take Brennan into custody in a more secure fashion when he shouted the death threats.

The prosecutor added: “When the cell van arrived, the abuse continued towards police.

“He shouted, ‘I am Irish. I am going to get you f*****g shot. This is not a threat, it is a warning. I am going to have you on your knees. You will be getting a bullet in your head’.”

Ms Barr added that when Brennan, formerly of Mannering Road, Foxbar, was removed from the cell van, he pointed at a constable, warning him that he “would be getting it too”.

He appeared in the dock, where he pleaded guilty to a charge of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner in that he shouted, swore and uttered threats of violence at police, including threats to kill them, and failed to desist when asked repeatedly.

Defence agent David Nicholson said Brennan, who is currently serving a 16-month stretch for other crimes, was admitting responsibility for the public disorder rap.

He said: “He had other issues and was self-medicating with alcohol.

“He has been in custody since March, but will be released in three weeks.”

Sheriff James Spy deferred sentencing Brennan to call for background reports and await his release from prison.

He will learn his fate when he appears back at court on October 29.

He shouted: ‘I am Irish. I am going to get you f*****g shot.’
