It’s all about to kick off with Street Stuff

-

Hundreds of young people are expected to take part in a popular activity scheme during the school holidays.

Street Stuff’s free October Week camp is set to return next week.

Football, gaming and more will be available for children aged eight to 16 at three venues across Renfrewshire, with afternoon sessions running from 1.30pm to 4.30pm every day.

And a free hot and healthy meal will also be on offer at every session in a bid to keep energy levels up so that young people can take part full of beans.

The October Week clubs will run alongside Street Stuff ’s evening programme, which hosts activities six days a week at venues across Renfrewshire.

Quoted on the Renfrewshire Council website, Councillor Marie McGurk, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Communities, Housing and Planning Policy Board, said: “Street Stuff continues to go from strength to strength and offers opportunities for young people allyear-round thanks to its fantastic coaches and volunteers.

“Our free October Week camps give our young people the chance to have fun with their friends when they’re not in school and parents and carers can feel safe in the knowledge they are in good hands.

“They can have fun, meet new friends as well having the chance to speak to our coaches and volunteers if they are having any issues.

“Add to that a free healthy meal at every session and I’m sure there are young people who can’t wait for the holidays to arrive!”

Street Stuff aims to be a diversionary project run in partnership between Renfrewshire Council, Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Engage Renfrewshire and St Mirren Football Club.

It began in 2009 and is said to have contributed to a reduction in youth disorder and antisocial behaviour by 75 per cent over the first five years, with a sustained reduction of 65 per cent.
