Praise for clear-up of dumped tyres
Renfrewshire Council’s StreetScene workers have moved quickly to clear a mound of discarded tyres in a Paisley park.
Irresponsible fly-tippers dumped more than 20 tyres in Durrockstock Park earlier this week, causing an eyesore at the nature reserve.
However, local authority environment staff responded in a swift manner and cleared the tyres on Tuesday morning.
Councillor Stephen Burns, who represents Paisley Southwest, praised the council for taking action quickly and effectively.
He said:“This is a great job by our StreetScene team.
“Well done to them for spotting the mess and clearing it up almost immediately.
“It’s frustrating that fly-tippers continue to make a mess of our community, given the hard work that is going into looking after our environment.
“People are beginning to take a real pride in their area and it’s discouraging to see this type of illegal dumping going on from a select few irresponsible individuals.”
Durrockstock Park – considered a vital part of the community by local people – has been blighted by litter problems.
Councillor Burns was out and about with residents as they cleaned up the park at the end of September.
He has been delighted by the community’s response to the council’s Team Up to Clean Up campaign and has consistently urged people to dispose of their rubbish properly.
“My advice, as always, is take your rubbish home and don’t leave it on other people’s doorsteps,”he said at the time.
