Ferry: Let’s pitch in and make up for cup misery

- BEN RAMAGE

Renfrew co- manager Martin Ferry is hoping his boys can deal with the soggy pitch when they take on Cambuslang Rangers today.

With ‘Frew likely to be playing on a sodden pitch at Somervell Park, the side will have to be prepared to battle the elements and their opponents.

And after a disappointing home loss to St Roch’s that saw them crash out of the Scottish Junior Cup, the gaffer is hoping they can put things right in the league.

Ferry said: “The surface is almost certainly going to be tricky with the weather.

“There’s a question mark over whether it will be on or not but there’s nothing worse than losing and then not being able to go back out and put it right.

“Everyone’s champing at the bit to get out back out and get another win to get the St Roch’s result out of our system.”

Cambuslang were likely to have brought in a new manager by the time ‘Frew arrive today.

But Ferry insists that even if they haven’t got a new man in charge they’ll still prove a tricky opposition as Renfrew look to keep up with the chasing pack at the top of the table.

He said: “When a club is managerless it can sometimes make it even more difficult. It makes things harder to predict.

“We’re hoping we don’t end up with egg on our faces but we need to keep picking up points, especially away from home.

“We’re up at the top of the table at the moment so we just want to keep up with those around us.

“We want to stay in touch with the top six so we’re in with a shout at the end of the season.”

Ferry is expecting to have a strong squad available for the trip, with some key players returning from injuries and suspension.

He added: “Ryan Borris is getting back to full fitness after starting last Saturday and David McCallum will be back from suspension.

“The only one we might be missing is Fraser Barbour who went off with a calf knock against St Roch’s.

“We’ve got a good squad so we’re confident heading into this one.”
