Jealous lout attacked woman she thought had slept with her ex

- RON MOORE

A jealous yob punched another woman amid claims she had slept with her ex-partner.

Danielle Johnstone, 28, attacked victim Demi Louise Kerr at the entrance to a drug addiction clinic in the town in full view of support workers.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard Johnstone had been attending a session at the resource centre in Back Sneddon Street when she clocked Ms Kerr walking up the stairs.

Procurator Fiscal Depute David Glancy told the court: “On the afternoon in question the accused had seen her addiction worker and the incident occurred after she had attended an appointment.

“The incident took place at the locus as the accused was leaving and the complainer was walking past into the premises.

“The accused, without making any comments or anything that predicated it, lunged at the complainer and struck her repeatedly on the head and body with her fists.

“People came from the clinic to separate them. The accused then made off. Police were contacted and after viewing CCTV were able to establish a line of inquiry.”

The court heard cops attended Johnstone’s home address where she freely admitted battering Ms Kerr.

The prosecutor added: “Police attended her address where she was cautioned and charged and in reply the accused stated, ‘She was a wee cow and she slept with my ex man.’

“Clearly there was a history to the assault.”

This week Johnstone of Gallowhill Road in the town pleaded guilty to a charge of assaulting Ms Kerr by repeatedly punching her on the head and body on August 14.

The court had called for background reports to be collated in preparation for sentencing.

Defence agent John Gardiner said: “I can confirm the position stated in social work reports and there is not much more that I can add in this matter.

“Th e s o c i a l w o rk department have confirmed they are prepared to continue working with her. She has been making progress and this might be a condition your Lordship considers.”

Sheriff James Spy handed her her a Community Payback Order comprising 15 months mandatory supervision and ordered her to do 120 hours of unpaid work for the benefit of the community.
