Charity champ John nears finish line

-

A dad who has tirelessly fundraised for the Teenage Cancer Trust in memory of his son is on his way to completing his trio of Stateside marathons.

John Delaney is aiming to finish three marathons in three weeks.

He finished the Chicago Marathon on October 13, which raised money for St Vincent’s Hospice, and on Sunday he finished the Toronto Lakefront Marathon, which was in aid of It’s Good 2 Give.

To complete his challenge, the Lochwinnoch man plans to run the famous New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 3, and raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

John runs all his marathons alongside his mascot ‘Wee Andy’, in memory of his son Andrew, who was diagnosed with cancer aged 14.

At the time, there were no specialist services for young people with cancer in

Scotland, and at 6 ft tall, Andy was too big fit in the beds at Glasgow Children’s Hospital.

After Andrew’s death, John began fundraising for Teenage Cancer Trust and has played an instrumental role in bringing their services to Scotland by raising more than £500,000.

Audrey Murray, Teenage Cancer Trust regional fundraising manager for Scotland, told the Paisley Daily Express:

“John has played an absolutely essential role in bringing Teenage Cancer Trust’s services to Scotland, and continues to be a tireless and passionate supporter of the charity.

“We’re so impressed that by John’s latest three marathon challenge, and encourage everyone to get behind him and donate to his Just Giving page.”
